In baseball the pitcher pitches the ball to the batter which is in the batters box. If the batter hits the ball it depends on the fielders to see if he is out or safe. If the ball is caught on the fly the batter is out. But if the ball is hit on the ground the fielder has to throw the ball to first if he wants a chance to get the batter out. If the ball arrives at first before the runner does, and the first baseman catches the ball while any part of his body is on first the batter is out. But if the ball arrives after the batter touches the base he is safe and is aloud to stay on first.
You are allowed to steal a base in baseball which is done by the runner on first or second starts running to the next base once the pitcher starts his windup. The catcher throws the ball down to the base. If the runner gets tagged by a player with the ball in his glove before he touches the base then he is out. But if he gets tagged after he touches the base he is safe.
